The IEEE election for year 2010 is over and the result gives us the good news that the IEEE President Elect for 2011 is Dr. Gordon W. Day while the R10 Director Elect 2011-12, is the Japanese candidate Dr.Toshio Fukuda. With your valuable support our Indian candidate, the first timer Mr. Ramakrishna Kappagantu (it’s me) stood second polling reasonably good no. of 3105 votes

I thank on my behalf and on behalf of IEEE India Council everyone who has taken time to exercise their voting franchise to elect the future IEEE leaders. Definitely the percentage voting has gone up this year not only in Region 10 but also in India . We request all of you to keep this tempo and actively volunteer in IEEE activities as well as in such election process.

Coming to the IEEE happenings, the following are the most important activities taking place in India IEEE.

1. Opening of IEEE India office at Bangalore on 29^thOctober, 2010 (Details are yet to be announced by Headquarters).

2. The renewal time of IEEE members has already started and India under the category of developing country is given status of e-membership enrolment for renewal of IEEE Membership which means Indian members need to pay only US$ 50 for the yearly Membership (Student Members are not covered for this special rate). I request all the Indian Members to avail this opportunity not only for renewing Membership for 2011 but also for enrolling new Members into the IEEE family. (Henceforth Indians need not pay more than 50 USD for their IEEE e-membership)

3. There has been a poor response for the India NDLP program which has been in vogue for the last 3 years. I request all the student branches and other interested IEEE Members to use the NDLP facility (Details are available in India Council web site) and arrange for the specialized NDLP lectures in this year itself. Many more such opportunities of knowledge sharing are publicized through India Council web site and its monthly newsletter.

Accomplishments 1999 – 2004

March 1999

As Chairman of the membership development of the Section, developed contacts with various multi-national, Government and utility companies apart from Student branches and contributed for the growth of membership strength of the Section which fetched the R10 outstanding leadership and sustained growth award consecutively for 3 years.

July 2000

As Treasurer of the Section introduced computerization of all the vouchers entries with which the preparation of Balance Sheet and Income-Expenditure Statement of the Section has become a simple job.

Jan 2001

As Treasurer of the Section actively involved in maintaining Section Accounts and providing necessary clarifications to Auditors and AGM and got the Statement of Accounts of the Section audited & cleared by the AGM for adoption

February 2002

Maintained excellent rapport with the banking institutions and by carrying out necessary analysis of various investment schemes, aptly invested the Section income as term deposit in selective banks which yielded multi-fold results over years increasing the Section Reserves. As a Treasurer for the year 2000-2002, utmost care was taken for the handling of the Section account and minimizing the unnecessary expenses. Made the investment yield 200% return in the bank account by end 2002.

July 2003

As Secretary of the Section maintained good relations with Section officers and Chapter EXECOM members and made excellent contribution during the tenure and ensured trouble free function of the Section by carrying out extensive technical activities in the region.

October 2003

As one of the active members in the organizing committee, ensured the successful completion of TENCON 2003 at Bangalore by providing all the essential reception and conference facilities

January, 2004

As Section Vice Chairman and Student Activities Chair organized a meet of the entire Student branch Chairs and Student branch Counselors of various colleges in the Section with office bearers of the Section. Organised technical colloquia at Student branches and Student branch leadership workshops which led to increased awareness to students and faculties to benefits student communities. This also aimed at attracting additional colleges to form new student branches

Accomplishments 2005 – 2007

February 2005

As Student Activity Chair organized a meeting of all the Student branch EXECOM members and branch Counselors with IEEE President and Section EXECOM during his visit to Bangalore. This helped to understand the problems faced by the Student branches and the solutions thereby achieved by them with special reference to the sustenance of the membership growth and quality technical programmes

October, 2005

Organised Student leadership workshop for the Student branches whereby the students were trained for various leadership skills like personality development, communication skills, leadership strength and strategies

During the year 2004-2005 as Student Activity Chair encouraged the student community of IEEE in the Section by starting 8 new branches and increasing the activities multifold in the existing student branches. Encouragement was given to the Students branches through lectures on IEEE and emerging technical areas during the visits of Student Activity Chair along with other Section officers. During the term as Student Activity Chair awards like Outstanding Student Branch Counselor, Outstanding web site, Best Student paper awards were received by Student branches in the Section

2006

Organized the prestigious International Symposium on Microwaves (ISM-2006) on behalf of the Section apart from many fruitful events as Vice Chair

2007

As the Organising Chair of INDICON-2007 and Local Activities Chair of IMSAA 07, successfully conducted the events in a very grand scale.

Had been instrumental in starting Power Engineering Society under the Section as a Vice

Accomplishments 2007 – 2010

2008

As General Chair organized various Technical Activities including the International Symposium on Measurements, Controls & Robotics (ISMCR), ISM-2008, IMSAA 08,etc; Visited many Industries and Engineering Colleges and responsible for 40% Membership growth achieved in the section during the year. At the Sections Congress, signed the MOU of Sister Section with Princeton/Central Jersey Section thus making Bangalore, one of the first Sections in R10 and India to do so.

Revived all the sick society chapters under Bangalore in Bangalore which includes unbundling of the CCEM chapter into individual and vibrant chapters viz. COMSOC, CS and TMC. Revived the GOLD Ag and formed the WIE Ag in the section

2009

* As General Chair steered the prestigious PES workshop on Large Scale Wind Integration thereby increasing revenue of Section/PES Society by USD 20,000.

* Successfully organized the National Student Branch Counselors Congress at New Horizon College of Engineering with IEEE Branch Counselor’s from all over India attending the meeting

* Organized the grand IEEE125th Anniversary celebrations of IEEE at Bangalore on Aug 29th 2009 at Hotel Ashok. The evening was graced by Former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

* Organized one day workshop on HUMAN VALUES in Technology & Management on August 30th attended by more than 400 young professionals and can boast of an impressive speaker lineup including His Holiness Sri Sri Ravishankar

* Organized International Congress on Women in Engineering with delegates from around the world participating

* Organized R10 GOLD Congress in Dec 2009 which had participation from the best of the industry leaders attending the conference
