Ramakrishna Kappagantu has over 30 years rich experience in Indian Power Sector viz NTPC Ltd and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. Currently he is spearheading Solar Power Projects for a Social Entrepreneurship Firm. Earlier he was project in-charge for the first Indian Smart Grid Pilot Project and Transmission System Consultancy at Puducherry, prior to which he effectively managed 55 GW South Indian Grid, its associated Real Time Operations SCADA-EMS & Power Markets. He had publications in various conferences and been a regular invited speaker in many Industry, Research, Academic & Training Institutes. His interests include Power System Economics, Energy Accounts, Smart Grids, Renewable & SCADA-EMS. Graduated in Electrical Engineering from NIT Jaipur, He did M.Tech in Automation & Control from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, India. He possesses an Advance Diploma in Management/Human Resources. He is a Life Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) and Member of Eta Kappa NU. He is currently a research scholar pursuing Ph.D in Smart Grids and Renewable at NIT, Tiruchrappalli. He works for embedding Human Values in Technology & Management and strongly opines that values induction alone can drive technology for the benefit of Humanity.

Conferences: He steered many international conferences successfully as General/Organizing Chair in PES & IEEE and thus lead, guide and developed a big bunch of dedicated volunteers which certainly exhibit his strong interpersonal skills with sensitivity to cross-cultural and transnational issues. He was the steering Committee member of the SG4P under IEEE New Initiatives in 2013 and the Chair of the All IEEE-R10 Young Engineers Humanitarian Challenge (AIyeHum2013).
Awards: His relentless and sincere efforts for growth of IEEE’s Technical & Humanitarian activities in India and Asia–Pacific fetched him, besides 2010-IEEE Outstanding Volunteer Awards from Region10 and Bangalore Section, 2011-IEEE MGA Achievement and the latest 2012-IEEE PES Bangalore Chapter Outstanding Engineer Awards. Having incubated the idea of nurturing young minds with Human Values to develop technologies for the benefit of Humanity, he lead the team of AIyeHUm successfully for the past six years which earned him the IEEE 2014 MGA Innovation Award for inspiring, enabling & connecting young scientists and engineers to solve real-world challenges, applying science and technology, and building relationships between industry and academia.
My Goal for R10:
- Making R10 the most vibrant region within IEEE and IEEE the preferred professional networking forum in the region
- Increasing focus on managerial skill development for IEEE members through partnerships with global management institutions
- Leveraging my industry experience to increase career opportunities for members and corporate sponsorship for IEEE
- Increasing the career / networking opportunities for members through a comprehensive career planning portal and mentoring programs for young professionals
- Empowering sections to be more effective and enhancing the member experience
- Transfer of useful IEEE member-benefits which are not extended so far to Region10
